Save Los Cedros

Mother Earth is NOT open for business! #saveloscedros

We’re no longer petitioning for Los Cedros alone but for all 39 other Bosques Protectores similarly threatened, however we leave this site here as it contains important information about Los Cedros.

Please sign the petition now to Save ALL Ecuador Rainforests From Mining.

Friends of Mother Earth,

The Los Cedros Rainforest is one of the most biologically diverse and endemic habitats on Planet Earth. It consists of 17,000 acres of cloud forest in Northwestern Ecuador.

Watch the 20-min Los Cedros film here!

The Ecuadorian Government has secretly signed a mining agreement with Canadian company “Cornerstone Capital Resources”. This agreement will allow for mining in the Choco Region, which includes Cascabel, the Los Cedros Forest and other sacred, protected forests. The Ecuadorian Government and Cornerstone are both completely disregarding existing, legal protections on the area. If we let Cornerstone in, they will destroy one of the most biologically diverse habitats on Planet Earth.

On one side, we have the forces of economic exploitation that will result in short term economic gain. On the other, we have community based conservation that has maintained sustainability and habitat protection. Who's side are you on? The voice of corporate greed is loud and the only way we can turn the tide is by creating a stronger rainforest community that supports and guards Mother Earth.

Los Cedros is the most biologically diverse habitat on Planet Earth with far more value than any short term economic gain. The agreement must be terminated and the Los Cedros Rainforest must remain protected for the future.

Call upon Cornerstone Capital Resources to STOP the mining and development activities that will result in the destruction of the Los Cedros Rainforest.

By signing this petition, you are demanding:

a) The acknowledgement of Los Cedros as a sacred, protected forest area.

b) The immediate termination of the mining agreement between The Ecuadorian Government and Cornerstone Capital Resources.

c) A refrain from any future mining and development activities in the Los Cedros eco-system.

There are strength in numbers.

Please sign the petition now to Save ALL Ecuador Rainforests From Mining.

Or, donate to the Save Ecuadors Rainforests Threatened by Mining!

Please stop letting things like this happen. Don’t you understand that once it’s gone, we can never get it back the way it was? You cannot change the past, please, help protect our future.

The Carbon Age is ending, hopefully without taking all of us with it. Let it not destroy our most precious places in its death throes.

It´s sad to see that the Ecuadorian government has turned away from its original promises to save the environment. Giving land rights to foreign mining companies exploiting natural reserves such as Lod Cedros seemed unimaginable few years ago. What is left of the concept of Buen Vivir?

The Los Cedros Reserve is the most bio diverse area on earth. This ecosystem is the most complex system in the universe that we have discovered. It is our duty to protect it from mining/raw mineral extraction. The species found only here are irreplaceable.

I stand firmly in all the above assertions and add the desecration of such a precious intact eco system and the potential loss of so many wonderful fellow species of Earth is plain unacceptable and totally despicable and cannot be allowed to happen. Economics must not override common sense or determine the foundation for life. You destroy eco systems you destroy the foundation for life. Earth Guardians Rise.

Dear Cornerstone Capital, dear Ecuadoran government,

In years to come our grandchildren will look into our eyes and search our hearts for our response to " What did you do nanna, poppa when you found out that rainforests are a part of the intricate ecology of our planet and that harming them would harm my possibility for life? ". I suggest each one of you stand before the mirror tonight and ask that question. For profits and electoral lists will not feature in your grandchildren’s hearts. And ask that question again and again. Please there is still time to change a decision of despair into empowerment … if one of you starts, the rest that follow.. which one of you will be strong and brave enough to start? Kindly, juli gassner
